Dining in Venice

Ah Venice...city of canals, romance, with a history of sensuous Rennaisance art and treacherous Rennaisance intrigues. This is truly a city where the traveler could spend years and still not take in all the marvels that this place offers. And when it comes to dining, truly the city of the Doges presents an embarassment of riches for epicures of every description.

The Ristornate Centrale Restaurant Lounge, found at the Piscina Frezzaria, S.Marco, specializes in fresh fish, and carries an extensive wine list. Truly a jewel of an eatery.

The Taverna S.Trovaso Di Cassan Giorgio & C. Snc - Ristorante Pizzeria, found at Fondamenta Priuli, 1016, serves classic Italian fare, seafood, and pizza at relatively reasonable prices. A bit touristy but the food is still authentic and excellent, and the service friendly.

Bacaro Jazz Restaurant, located at San Marco, 5546, convenient to the Rialto bridge, serves Italian and international cuisine along with great cocktails and live Blues and Jazz entertainment.

The Restaurant La Caravella Venice, found at Via XXII Marzo, 2399, specializes in Northern Italian cuisine, with interior decor that recalls the famous Venetian trading vessels of the same name, and has a wine list of over 250 labels.

If for some reason you wish to try some non-Italian cuisine while in Venice, the Bistrot De Venise, located at
San Marco, 4685, serves excellent classic French fare and beautiful deserts in a lovely old building.

The Trattoria Sempione, located at Calle Larga San Marco, 578, serves up classic Venetian seafood in a great atmosphere with an amazing canal side view. The price of a meal gets you all the fine seafood you could possibly want and a bottle of wine to sip as you leisurely watch the gondolas slip by.

If you get homesick for a little American fare, don't be ashamed, it can happen to even the most cosmopolitan world traveler. Just head on down to the Hard Rock Cafe Venice, found at 1192 San Marco, right behind Saint Mark's Square. The prices are actually quite reasonable for Venice, and some who have eaten there declare their ribs to be the best on Earth, they alone being worth flying back to Venice for.
